October 30, 2009-email

So, I accidentally pushed the wrong button and deleted my first letter, which was about two pages long. So I don't have time to retype, but I'll answer Dad's 13 questions (Dave asked Josh 13 questions in his letter on Sunday).
1. My companion Elder Fuller is great. We're learning to work as a team and he's already been studying Portuguese so he's helping me get a little ahead.
2. The branch presidency is interesting. They support us, but they're really strict and rough, so they remind me more of wardens. But that's probably because they have so much to look after. We have the largest zone with over 130 and at least 110 of us are Brazil visa misfits.
3,4. Our district is 14 elders, no sisters. We're doing so well. Losing those two made us come together so quickly.
5. I can give a basic 4 line prayer in Portuguese. I also know the First Vision in English and Portuguese. The Spirit is really strong here, and I know it's not me, it's all Him.
6. Best thing: putting on my tag every day. It still makes me so excited I'm a missionary.
7. Hardest thing: my body isn't doing so well. The food is taking a toll. Enough said.
8. I'm learning so much and loving it, even though it's the hardest thing I've ever done in some ways.
I've got to run. If I'm doing something other than reading scriptures or teaching, it doesn't last over 15 minutes. Love you all, and thanks to all those who have written me!
Love, Elder Barton

At least he was able to answer those for us. Maybe the purpose of the food in the MTC is to prepare missionaries for all the interesting things they will encounter - ya that's it. Love ya!
