October 24, 2009-Snail Mail

Ola Familia!
Sorry if my first letter freaked you out. I'm doing so much better now. I've felt how much love and support I have. Also, out of a district of 16, we lost 2, so we've all pulled together.
We are so well scheduled that having free time is weird. I love our classes, and even though Portuguese is hard, I've felt the Spirit help me. I also know that's why I took Spanish (at Dixie).
Being part of the Brazil group, we're in limbo. They have great teachers, but everything else is always in flux. Always praying, studying and singing helps me so much. I know I'm where I'm supposed to be, doing what I'm supposed to be doing. I know I'm going to serve the people of Brasil. I love them, and please pray for them.
My companhero is Elder Fuller from Indianapolis, Indiana. He's great and he's already studied Portuguese, so he helps. We're learning to teach as a team, which is exciting.
Wow preparation day goes quick! I'll write sooner than later (hopefully). I love this work and I know Jesus Christ directs and blesses it.
Keep reading the Book of Mormon and Preach My Gospel!
Love, Elder Barton
P.S. Please keep up those prayers! We need them.

My New Testament professor shared this quote with us in class and it made me think of Josh.

"This church expects something of people. It has high standards. It has strong doctrine. It expects great service from people. They don't just idly go along. We expect them to do things. People respond to that. They welcome the opportunity to be of service, and as they do so, they grow in their capacity, in their understanding, and in their qualifications to do things and to do them well."
~President Gordan B. Hinckley.

Even though he's only a week in, I'm already so excited to watch him grow as he serves the Lord!
--and it reminds me that we can keep serving and growing where we are too. :) I'm glad to see him pushing forward!
